Third Anniversary of Peace Gull Naming: Kunming Lovers of Gulls Plan Celebration Activities

Kunming, August 29. The year 2026 marks the third anniversary of the official naming of Kunming’s red-billed gulls as "Peace Gulls". Officially designated as the mascot of the Belt and Road International Day and named "Peace Gulls" in 2023, the red-billed gulls that overwinter in Kunming every year have become a vivid symbol of ecological harmony, cultural exchange and world peace.

For more than 40 years, red-billed gulls have returned to the Spring City year after year, forming a heartwarming picture of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature in Chinese cities. To commemorate the significant naming of "Peace Gulls" and inherit the fine concepts of protecting birds, cherishing nature and safeguarding peace, local gull lovers in Kunming have spontaneously planned a series of celebration activities for the third anniversary.

Centering on ecological science popularization, touching stories of human-gull friendship and peace culture dissemination, the themed activities will adopt diverse public welfare forms to showcase Kunming’s unique gull culture, spread the ecological philosophy of harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature, and promote the contemporary spirit of peace, inclusiveness and connectivity along the Silk Road.
