Sincere Condolences on the Mudslide Disaster at Jilong Port on China-Nepal Border

 
At about 10:30 on August 26, 2026, affected by severe convective weather in the Rasuwa area of northern Nepal, a catastrophic mountain mudslide broke out at Jilong Port in Xigaze, Xizang, on the China-Nepal border. The sudden massive mudslide flooded the port area instantly, causing heavy casualties and many missing persons. Some buildings were buried and road access was completely interrupted, bringing extremely heavy losses to the lives and property of local residents, port staff and international travelers.

As a key hub for China-Nepal connectivity and an important node of the southward passage of the Silk Road, Jilong Port undertakes the vital mission of economic and trade cooperation, cultural exchanges and neighborly friendship between the two countries and surrounding regions. This sudden geological disaster has mercilessly claimed precious lives and broken the peace of the border port, filling us with profound grief and regret.

The mountains and rivers mourn, and wind and rain express sorrow. After the disaster, rescue forces at all levels rushed to the affected site immediately, fully carrying out personnel search and rescue, road clearance, hidden danger investigation, mass resettlement, and communication and power guarantee work, racing against time to protect lives and reduce losses.
